Highlight of the Township of Brudenell, Lyndoch & Raglan

The modern township of Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan was created through municipal amalgamation in 2001, but the land division story spans back to the 1850s when the area was opened for settlement via the Opeongo Road. The three constituent townships—Brudenell, Lyndoch, and Raglan—were all surveyed under the traditional concession system, though local topography introduced many practical deviations.

Communities like Quadeville and Hardwood Lake grew modestly around mineral and lumber interests. Historic mine claims, especially in Lyndoch and Raglan, introduced layers of mining patents and leases, creating complex cadastral overlays that still appear in title research today.

For Ontario Land Surveyors, this municipality involves navigating original Crown surveys, mineral claim maps, and road allowances laid out during the colonization era. The varying terrain, combined with the mosaic of early industries, means that property research often requires consulting both land title and mining records, particularly when working in former claim areas.
