Hopefield is a small community situated near the boundary of Hagarty and Richards townships, just south of Round Lake. It developed as a minor waystation along the Bonnechere Road in the 19th century, serving the scattered farming population and providing a stopping point between Killaloe and Golden Lake.

The area’s name reflects the optimism of early settlers, though the rocky soil and harsh winters made agriculture a challenge. Churches, schools, and a post office were established by the 1880s, forming a modest rural hub. Today, Hopefield is largely residential, with legacy farmsteads still dotting the surrounding roads.

For surveyors, Hopefield offers examples of early severances and occupation overlays on the original Crown concession grid. Concession lots are generally intact but have been divided informally over generations. Drainage ditches, tile systems, and field boundaries often inform parcel interpretation, particularly where legal descriptions lack registered plans.
