Highlight of the Hamlet of Jewellville

Jewellville is a small rural community in Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan Township, situated in the Madawaska Highlands along the Madawaska River, just east of Palmer Rapids. It emerged in the early 20th century during a brief period of corundum mining, with a small mill operating locally. The paving of Highway 515 in the late 1960s improved access and helped sustain a modest settlement focused on forestry, seasonal camps, and scattered farms.

Though it never developed rail infrastructure or formal village status, Jewellville served as a minor service point for surrounding resource activities. The area’s rugged topography shaped both its settlement pattern and the layout of roads, with Highway 515 generally following the course of older concession allowances adjusted to navigate hills and wetlands.

From a land surveyor’s perspective, Jewellville presents a combination of disrupted concession grids, mining-related overlays, and terrain-influenced deviations. Crown lot lines, early claim boundaries, and informal severances all intersect in a landscape shaped more by extraction and access than by agriculture or planned development.
