Highlight of the Township of Laurentain Valley

Laurentian Valley surrounds the City of Pembroke and includes former geographic townships such as Stafford, Alice, and Fraser. It’s a large, semi-rural municipality shaped by both agricultural development and suburban expansion from Pembroke. Originally surveyed in the early 1800s, its proximity to the Ottawa River and the Bonnechere River facilitated early trade, settlement, and industrial activity.

The region includes several former village centres—such as Cotieville and Shady Nook—that never fully incorporated but remain focal points of community identity. It has a diverse survey fabric: early farm lots, Crown patents issued to logging companies, hydro corridors, and overlapping subdivision plans all contribute to complex parcel histories.

Surveyors in Laurentian Valley work across a variety of conditions—from tight urban-style subdivisions near Pembroke to wide, concession-spanning agricultural properties further afield. Drainage schemes, hydroelectric easements, and severances from the post-war building boom all contribute layers of legal description and title complexity. Surveys frequently involve harmonizing old deeds, multiple plan types, and informal occupation lines across varied terrain.
