Lochwinnoch is a small hamlet situated along County Road 21 in what was formerly the Township of Ross, now part of Laurentian Valley. Its name is taken from a Scottish town, reflecting the influence of early Scottish settlers who arrived in the mid-19th century during the height of the colonization wave in Renfrew County.

Historically, Lochwinnoch served as a minor service centre along a rural concession line, with a church, post office, and schoolhouse forming the core of the community. It remained agriculturally focused, with surrounding farms forming a stable population base through the early 20th century. Though it never expanded significantly, Lochwinnoch maintained its presence on regional maps due to its ecclesiastical role and modest commercial activity.

From a land surveying standpoint, Lochwinnoch represents classic concession-based development with relatively few subdivisions. The grid pattern remains well-preserved, though land use changes over time have introduced piecemeal severances, road realignments, and consolidations.
