Highlight of the Hamlet of Locksley

Locksley is a rural locality located at the junction of several sideroads near the former Township of Ross. Its identity grew out of its role as a local railway stop on the Canada Atlantic Railway line, which brought early industry and movement through what was otherwise a quiet farming region. The hamlet once featured a small train station, blacksmith shop, and general store, serving as a modest hub for surrounding agricultural families.

The decline of rail service in the mid-20th century reduced Locksley’s prominence, and today it remains primarily residential and agricultural in character. However, remnants of its rail-era infrastructure—embankments, roadbed traces, and even the occasional platform foundation—are still visible in the area.

For surveyors, Locksley presents a layered set of legal records. Rail rights-of-way, original Crown grants, and abandoned transport corridors all intersect here. Careful title review is essential, especially where old spur lines or station grounds have reverted to adjacent lots. Fieldwork often involves interpreting outdated easements and tracing historic travel routes across now-privatized land.
