Highlight of the Township of Rolph
Rolph Township was one of three historic townships amalgamated to form the municipality of Head, Clara and Maria. Situated along the Ottawa River, the township remained sparsely populated due to its dense forest and remoteness from major roads. Logging dominated the economy well into the 20th century, with extensive use of river drives.
The community of Bissett Creek falls within Rolph’s bounds, representing one of the few population clusters. Crown patents here were often granted for timber extraction rather than settlement, and road development was minimal until provincial highways were introduced.
