Highlight of the Hamlet of Sand Point
Sand Point is located on the Ottawa River at the edge of McNab/Braeside Township. It developed in the 1800s as a port and sawmill village, supported by river navigation and later, the Canadian Atlantic Railway. The community’s name reflects the sandy beach and shoal that made it a natural landing site for boats and log drives.
In its peak years, Sand Point featured a post office, general store, and hotel. The construction of the Sand Point railway bridge made it a local transportation hub for a time.
Surveying in Sand Point involves reconciling early industrial plans with modern recreational development. Shoreline lots, mill parcels, and railway easements must be reviewed in tandem. Crown reserves along the Ottawa River and historic shoreline occupations can complicate boundary interpretation.

A full understanding of the sources of evidence, the reasoning of its origin, and sources for error; all of the why - who - when - where - how must be evaluated.
