Highlight of the Hamlet of Stewartville

Stewartville is a small hamlet within McNab/Braeside Township, situated along the Madawaska River. Historically, it served as a milling centre with a dam and hydroelectric facility. Its strategic location on the river made it a hub for local commerce and power generation.

The community grew modestly, with churches, a school, and general store, though it remained rural and unincorporated. The river’s role in energy and transport defined its historical footprint.

Land surveyors in Stewartville often deal with hydro-related boundaries, including dam easements, flowage rights, and riparian allowances. Road access and parcel development follow older settlement-era patterns with few large subdivisions. Riverbank erosion and infrastructure changes impact modern retracement.
