Highlight of the Hamlet of Thompson Hill

Thompson Hill is an informal locality nestled within the interior terrain of central Renfrew County, positioned near the Bonnechere River and commonly associated with surrounding farming communities. While never formally incorporated, the name reflects either a prominent settler family or a topographic landmark used by early surveyors and locals alike.

The area saw modest agricultural use during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with scattered homesteads and rural schools supporting a small population. Thompson Hill functioned as a waypoint between more centralized communities like Eganville and Round Lake Centre, with local roadways climbing the ridge and offering strategic views across the rolling landscape. Today, it remains a rural reference point for landowners, many of whom trace their roots to original settlers.

Surveying in Thompson Hill often involves traversing hilly, mixed-forest terrain, where concession roads follow the slope rather than original straight alignments. Parcels are typically metes-and-bounds, and boundaries may be demarcated by stone fences, century-old fencing, or natural features such as ridge lines and creek beds. Original monuments may be missing, requiring a careful review of surrounding lot fabric and title history.
