Highlight of the Township of Whitewater Region
The Whitewater Region is a contemporary municipality formed in 2001 through the amalgamation of the Townships of Westmeath, Ross, and Cobden. It takes its name from the world-renowned whitewater rapids on the Ottawa River, a natural feature that has shaped both the cultural and economic history of the area.
The region encompasses historic villages, agricultural land, and stretches of prime waterfront. Its roots lie in 19th-century settlement patterns, but the area’s modern identity is closely tied to outdoor recreation, paddling tourism, and conservation.
For land surveyors, the Whitewater Region presents a diverse landscape. Boundaries span early township grids, irregular shoreline parcels, and heritage village plans. Ottawa River frontage introduces hydrographic challenges: floodplain mapping, flowage easements, and shore road allowance usage are frequent factors in legal boundary work.
